One minute of clearly focusing on a dream or goal can overcome months, even years, of misguided thinking. One minute of visualization can overcome a great many doubts and fears and bring you a step closer to realizing your dream. One minute of prayer can work miracles. Dare to dream of an expansive goal. Sit still for just a minute. Focus on your goal. Within that goal is a plan to realize it. Find out what the plan is. The next steps to take will become clear to you — and they’re not difficult or scary to take. They’re simple, easy, even obvious. On one sheet of paper, write a short, simple plan to reach your goal. Once you’ve done that, you have charted your course. We can be off course 95 percent of the time — just like an airplane — and still reach our destination if we just keep correcting our course, over and over. And that correction can take just a minute, or even less. It can take one thought, or even just one breath.
Find what works for you — there are so many possibilities to choose from! You can say it as a prayer, or see it as a visualization, or feel it as a meditation, or create it mentally as a business plan. Do it in your own unique way. Along the way affirm that you’re doing it in an easy and relaxed, healthy and positive way, in its own perfect time, for the highest good of all. That’s a powerful affirmation that can in itself overcome years of doubts and fears. Easy, relaxed, healthy, positive: Those four words alone can dispel even well-established, long-term doubts and fears. The Power of One Breath One breath is all we need… Katsuki Sekida, author of three excellent books on Zen, including the book we published, A Guide to Zen, taught his students about “one breath Zen”: All you have to do, he said, is sit or stand, focus your attention on something in the distance, take a breath, and as you breathe out, let all thought go. For a moment, for a breath, there is no thought. That is Zen. In one breath, we can relax our body, from head to toe. In one breath, we can imagine healing energy circulating through our whole body, healing every cell. In one breath we can powerfully, positively affect the chemistry of our bodies and minds. The Power of One Thought At New World Library, we publish books and other material that change people’s lives. When I look back on the books I’ve read that have had a great impact on my life, what I remember are just brief thoughts, simple, short quotes. Recalling those short quotes in moments of doubt or anxiety brings back the impact those great works have had on me. Here’s the main thing I remember from James Allen’s gem, As You Think:
And for many months, I reflected on this one sentence from Eckhart Tolle’s masterpiece, The Power of Now:
Just repeating that thought — a great many times over several years — has helped bring far more grace, ease, and lightness into my life. Perhaps most of the books I’ve written, including Visionary Business, can be summed up in this one thought:
Be well, be in peace, Marc Allen
