Joel Rothschild

Joel Rothschild, according to the United Nations and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control's statistics, is one of the longest living AIDS survivors in the world today. He has volunteered, assisted, and worked with terminally ill people for over 18 years and has worked probono as an AIDS activist and domestic lobbyist specializing in the Food and Drug Administration's new drug testing policies. From 1988 to 1998 he has served as a volunteer medical guinea pig and is the lone survivor from several FDA phase one drug tests. He received his degree in communications from Florida Atlantic University in 1979. He has appeared on numerous national television and radio shows. He is a consistently high-rated TV and radio guest with celebrity endorsements ranging from Elizabeth Taylor to Pamela Anderson. In 2001 the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences bestowed upon him one of their highest honors, the 2000 TV Cares Award.

Joel has outlived his doctor's prognosis for death and still works as an AIDS activist, volunteers, and supports several charities. His hobbies include gardening, working out, classical music, writing poetry, and dog training. He shares his home with two Jack Russell terriers, named William Shakespeare (a.k.a. Billy) and Gertrude Stein (a.k.a. Gertie). He has trained both dogs and uses them as volunteers. Together they work with terminally ill patients and children with Down Syndrome.
